VpCI®-658 is a solvent-based injectable corrosion inhibitor for protection against low lagging corrosion (CUI). VpCI®-658 combats corrosion caused by moisture and other corrosive media that enter the lagging after the water barrier wraps or covers are compressed or when condensation accumulates under the lagging. Moisture between the lagging and metal surfaces, such as pipes, encourages corrosion that can go unnoticed for long periods of time. This can cause serious maintenance and repair costs as well as potentially dangerous leaks.
The application of VpCI®-658 provides long-lasting benefits such as reduced maintenance costs, reduced downtime for repair and replacement, and an overall increase in safety by avoiding catastrophic corrosion-related failures. Vapor phase corrosion inhibitors in the product allow VpCI®-658 to be injected into the existing lagging and allowing it to migrate through the lagging to protect the lower metal surfaces.
The tests confirm the complete prevention of corrosion in silicate-type blankets after 6 months of exposure to saturated levels of water. The VpCI-658 is injected at intervals of 12 to 24 months with injection distances of 3-6 m depending on the diameter of the equipment, pipe, etc. and the density of the heat-insulating material. VpCI-658 has the ability to prevent or correct corrosion on a wide spectrum of materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper-based alloys. The typical injection is 330 cm3/m3.
